Poland celebrates May 3 -- so do I

Apparently, the national holiday is not for my birthday :-). It's Constitution Day. Poland was the second country in the world to adopt one we've been told. After a reasonable breakfast of coffee, milk, cereal, cold scrambled eggs, and crepes, we head over to the tourist office to confirm that there really will be a steam train run tomorrow. http://parowozowniawolsztyn.pl/home/lang/en That will be a real treat.

At the parish church, everyone is assembling for a parade - a marching band, majorettes, some costumed people, and mostly, the local parishioners.

We considered sushi for lunch but it was really pricey - so we settled for a couple of so-so kebabs eaten in the common room of our hotel/hostel. Then we did our normal thing, walking around - first in the wrong direction. The curvy streets are confusing, even with a map. We get to the Kaiser's Castle to see the World Press Photo exhibit: closed. The old brewery is also closed so we just grab a couple of tins of Tyskie and drink them at the hotel. Lots of nice birthday wishes from friends around the world are showing up.

For dinner, we are going to Chatka Babuni - Grandma's Shack - for some traditional Polish nosh. And we're back - full of duck-filled boiled perogies with mushroom sauce (9 for 19 zł), baked smoked sausage perogies with onion sauce (5 large for 19 zł), a black currant juice (5 zł), and a Somersby apple cider flavoured beer (9 zł). With a tip, we're as stuffed as a perogie for about $20.
