Last day in Poznań

After yesterday's exertions (we walked for 10 of the 15 hours we were awake), we sleep in, eat too much breakfast, and laze around the hotel until we want some lunch.

There's a Subway very close to the hotel so we split a large sub (18.3 zł) and walk over to the Museum of Musical Instruments. As a hack musician, it was fascinating - three floors of mostly European instruments with a few oddities from India, Indonesia etc. There are keyboards, harps, brass, strange bagpipes, and a few instruments that I am clueless about. Non-musicians would be bored silly.

Automatic Piano Player
The machine on the right is like a player piano in that it takes an interchangeable roll. As the holes are sensed (those of a certain age will remember punched computer cards), dozens of little fingers go up and down. Simply wheel it up to any regular piano, and voila, instant music.

This is a weird one. It's bowed like a violin but amplified through a horn like an old phonograph.

And here are a couple of the strangest bagpipes that I have ever seen.

Then it's off to the Stare Browary -- Old Brewery -- to see what the richest woman in Poland has created. It's no longer a brewery although bits and pieces have been incorporated into what is now a very spiffy shopping centre and hotel. There are all sorts of strange and wonderful art works throughout.

We'll hit the grocery store in the morning for lunch stuff before we catch the train to Wrocław (pronounced Vrotswav of course). For our last dinner, we head back to Chatka Babuni for zurek (sour soup 8.5 zł), szare kluchy (potato dumplings with bacon and sauerkraut 13 zł), a glass of wine each (2 x 9 zł) and a large piece of serni (baked cheesecake with raspberries and chocolate sauce 12 zł).
